This Sunday is going to be a great day for our congregation as we go out and serve our community with hundreds of different projects. We'll join together for a short sending service at 8:30 in the worship center then head out on busses all over the community. Dutton and I will lead this abbreviated time of worship. The service is slated to begin at 8:30, but we'll actually get a running start at 8:20. Hope you can come and serve!

April 25, 9:15 Worship at the Heights
We gave the orchestra the Sunday off, so we'll be using a small, acoustic instrumental group and enjoy a little different sound this week. Church member and Berkner orchestra director Craig Needham is on cello and Darek Dowgielewicz is back on violin and you’ll love what they add to the worship set.

April 11, 9:15 Worship at the Heights
It was a great day of worship together, yesterday as we lifted our voices in song. The kids did a great job starting us off and highlighting our May 2nd Engage Day opportunity that is coming up by doing "Work Together" a standout song from last summer's musical. You'll want to come and check out their spring musical "The Sermon on the Mound" on Sunday, April 25th @ 6 pm.
I shared yesterday that I'll be headed, with several other Heights folks, very shortly to Ukraine with the Singing Men of TX. I'm always struck by the worship that we experience on these international trips when we're in the different churches. In so many places, like Romania or China there has been huge oppression on the Christians throughout the years. When they sing in worship everyone participates in an amazing way and the sound is incredible. They sing as though they have been redeemed! I am always left with the sense that I need to confess before the Father that we so many times "miss it" with our worship here in our Southern Baptist, primarily white middle class culture. So many times it seems as though we try so hard not to be like the Catholics or the Pentecostals that we end up feeling more like the "frozen chosen." Afraid to sing out, bow or raise a hand - just in case someone else is looking. It was that sense of frustration that led me to write "We Confess." It was a confession that I want to worship You, Lord - but sometimes this feeling of what has been described to me as "reverent" doesn't match up with totally letting go and going full out. The bridge is our prayer - Lord, renew a steadfast hope - restore the joy of my salvation!
My prayer is that we would worship in spirit and truth...much more concerned about what the Lord hears from us and thinks of us than the person sitting a row over!
Here's the song order
Work Together (WorshipQuest Kids Choir and motion)
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
We Confess
Jesus Paid it All
Nothing But the Blood of Jesus
Nothing But the Blood - Matt Redman (chorus only) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtGSaz0FjU8
I Then Shall Live (choir and orchestra) Finlandia tune by Jean Sibelius - words by Gloria Gaither http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxyBMQJuTuc (Signature Sound/Gaither Vocal Band)
